TV Interactive Data Corporation (TVI) was founded in 1993 by Peter Redford and Yoshiaki Matsuda.

TVI is a pioneer in video-on-demand technology  ("any TV program, anytime") and has obtained over 40 US and international patents.  TVI's investors include Intel Capital and NTT (Japan).

In 2001, TVI sold it's Smartpaper division to Evidea Corporation of Santa Monica, CA (renamed to Smartpaper Networks Corporation).

In 2002, TVI filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft Corporation.   The company is represented in this lawsuit by Robins Kaplan Miller and Ciressi LLP (the same law firm that recently won a $565 million jury verdict against Microsoft on behalf of Eolas Corporation).  A jury trial in the TVI vs Microsoft case is expected in the first quarter of 2005 and is described in Microsoft's current 10-Q filing with the SEC.

On December 9, 2003, the court issued a Claim Construction Order granting TVI eight out of ten of the disputed claim constructions.

On October 13, 2004, the court has denied all three of Microsoft's motions for summary judgment allowing the case to go to trial.  See the orders here: Order 1, Order 2, Order 3.

On October 21, 2004: TVI filed a patent infringement law suit against eight of the largest PC manufacturers, including: IBM, HP, Sony, NEC, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Dell and Gateway.
